Tank inspections in Switzerland at a glance
Visual check or full tank inspection? What the law requires and how an inspection works – in a nutshell.
The legal basis is the Swiss Water Protection Act (GSchG) and Water Protection Ordinance (GSchV). Enforcement lies with the cantons and their environmental conference (KVU), supplemented by the SVGW guidelines.
The key difference: a visual check looks from the outside, a tank inspection goes inside the tank.
How an inspection works: book a date, empty the tank, clean it, internal inspection including wall thickness, check the safety devices, repairs, recommissioning – and finally the report. Private heating oil tank or filling station: we're happy to tell you what's due at your site.
